A report of Jay-Z, former co-owner of the Brooklyn Nets and now an agent for NBA players, holding a black-only part is beginning to make the rounds again after the basketball league banned Donald Sterling and fined him $2.5 million.
It was reported that Jay-Z hosted an extravagant party in early 2010 in London and prohibited white people from attending the party – bouncers had been informed to refuse entry to white people.
Here is an account from Daily Star reporter Kim Dawson:
“I’ve been to countless showbiz bashes but never have I met meatheads like those at the Jay-Z do (party). Jay-Z is a megastar and yet it was clear white people were not welcome in his VIP area. While the red rope was lifted for black guests to breeze through, let’s just say it stayed down if your face didn’t fit. I have never felt so intimidated. It left me feeling like a mauled dog.”
Of course, from a libertarian position, he can permit and reject any one person he wants, but the question is: will the NBA be hypocritical or be consistent in its stance in opposing racism? It’s likely that the NBA will just hold a double standard.
Sterling was banned from the NBA for supposedly espousing racist views in a private, secretly recorded conversation with his girlfriend. However, the NBA will probably not ban and/or fine Jay-Z for having a well-known, public event that was racist against Caucasians.
What about Charles Barkley who said at a press conference that he “hates white people”? What about Shaquille O’Neal mocking a disabled person?
Ah, what a politically correct world we live in, where racism is permitted from one group and not allowed from another group.

Well, the NBA can’t be hypocritical because none of the people you mention aren’t in the NBA. Silly article. Also, Sterling isn’t being banned for racist comments at all. It’s not hypocritical if nothing about the situation is the same.
