WOW! It took bitcoin just three minutes to jump $1,000 – and other figures

One bitcoin is presently valued at just under $16,600. Who knows? Perhaps that will change within the next several seconds.

Thursday turned out to be a whirlwind day for the peer-to-peer decentralized virtual currency. It soared to $19,000 in a matter of minutes, before crashing to $16,000 in the same length of time.

Bitcoin is up 1,500 percent year-to-date. But just how much has bitcoin really surged since being priced at a few cents when it was first created?

Former Reagan budget director David Stockman of Contra Corner put together a great list, highlighting the amount of time it took to climb a $1,000. It’s truly remarkable.
