BITTER: Nancy Pelosi slams wage hikes, bonuses from Corporate America

In the aftermath of the Republican tax bill slashing the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent, Corporate America is giving wage hikes, bonuses, and many other perks to their employees. The GOP tax plan is flawed, but this was one of the best aspects of it.

To celebrate, for example, Walmart is raising their minimum wage to $11, handing out $1,000 bonuses to staff, raising maternity and paternity leaves at full pay, and offering financial assistance to those looking to adopt (SEE:  Walmart raising minimum wage, offering bonuses, enhancing maternity leave thanks to tax cut).

Good for them.

But some Democrats are bitter about the whole thing.

Nancy Pelosi, millionaire House Minority Leader, slammed the wage increases and bonuses, calling them “pathetic,” and likened them to giving out “crumbs.”

She said at a press conference:

“A number of bonuses that were given … one of the bonuses was in a union contract and then they added a little more money to that. That same firm just told the employees they were going to be laying off 1,500 people and if they wanted to save their jobs, they could all start working 32 hours,” she said.

“In terms of the bonus that corporate America received versus the crumbs they are giving to workers to put the schmooze on is so pathetic. And I would hope with their big advantage of bringing home at a very low rate that they would invest in infrastructure, but our experience has been they will seek dividends and buy-backs. It is insignificant.”

Oh, Nancy. You may be worth $30 million, and you likely sneeze at a $1,000 bonus. But to a family of four, they are likely grateful for the extra money. Just because you hate President Donald Trump, it doesn’t mean that you can’t give praise once in a while.

For shame.
