Hypocrisy Alert: Millionaire Chelsea Clinton says she doesn’t care about money

What’s wrong with affluent liberals and their hypocrisy? It just doesn’t make sense at times.

In a recent interview with the London Telegraph, Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of President Bill Clinton and likely future president Hillary Clinton, said that she doesn’t care about money at all, despite living quite a lavish lifestyle and has lived off of her last name her entire life.

Here is what she said:

“I was curious if I could care about [money] on some fundamental level, and I couldn’t. That wasn’t the metric of success I wanted in my life. “It is frustrating, because who wants to grow up and follow their parents? I’ve tried really hard to care about things that were very different from my parents.”

It’s an interesting statement. Indeed, she is right: life isn’t all about money and a person’s drive shouldn’t be just about money, though if that’s a person’s choice then all the power to them. A life is based on love, happiness and health. However, her words and her lifestyle suggest something completely different and are rather contradictory.

Here are some facts about her money habits: she spent $3 million on a wedding to a Goldman Sachs investment banker, she upgraded from a $4 million apartment and purchased a $10.5 million New York City apartment and she earns $600,000 a year working at NBC as a special correspondent.

There is nothing wrong with earning money or living off of the family name – what crony or bureaucrat doesn’t respect the Clinton name? – but it’s another to be hypocritical about it and claim that you don’t care about money. She is a girl who has been fed with a silverspoon and grew up in a well-to-do family.

It’s akin to other prominent liberals and socialists who say they dislike capitalism, free markets and wealth but then lead lifestyles filled with abundance and have more than the average person, who weren’t so fortunate of gaining wealth through the arms of government.

Clinton, who probably spends more in one day than someone else her age does in a month, is perhaps trying to appear down to Earth and insightful. Instead, she comes off as just another hypocrite. If she doesn’t care about money then lead the life of a lower or middle class person.
