Last month, Oxford announced that “selfie” was the Word of the Year for 2013. If you’re unsure what a selfie is, it’s a self-portrait photograph taken by a camera or a smartphone’s camera and is then uploaded to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media outlets. Although a selfie and social networking might seem harmless, are they destroying human empathy and the positive characteristics that are embodied in all of us?
