Energy costs are skyrocketing across the country. With the summer season fully in swing, households are pumping out the air conditioner and utilizing many appliances to keep cool during these hot months. Of course, the summer season also comes with an abundance of entertainment and plenty of cooking.
With a couple of months left for the summer, it’s important to find ways to save money on your utility bill until the end of September, early October. Here are six ways to contain those costs.
1. Clean your air conditioning filters each month and get it professionally inspected once a year to ensure they are operating efficiently and inexpensively.
2. Shutting down the entertainment center entirely to prevent vampire power from hiking your energy bills. Try to unplug your electronics or utilize a Smart Strip.
3. Rather than using the kitchen and appliances for your cooking needs that will heat you up consider using an outdoor grill and smaller appliances (toaster, microwave oven).
4. When you sleep, turn on a fan instead of the air conditioner.
5. Plant a tree or a shrub in front of your home to diminish the heat from the sun during the day.
6. Set your thermostat to 76 (24 degrees Celsius) to 78 degrees (25 degrees Celsius) when you’re home and to “off” when you’re away.
