A buck used to buy quite a bit. Nowadays, a buck buys a nickel’s worth.

This infographic looks at how much $1 used to purchase, including four movie tickets (1941), three gallons of whiskey (1810), two pounds of coffee (1808), 10 Hershey’s bars (1973) and one gallon of gasoline (1998). Now, a buck can acquire 0.18 oz steak, one-quarter of a movie theater water bottle and one pine tree car freshener.
