If you’re eager to start working on your taxes (who would be at this time of the year?) there is some good news coming out of the Internal Revenue Service. The tax-collecting agency announced Monday that it will begin to accept tax returns as of Jan. 20, 2015.
The IRS congratulated itself that it is starting tax season on schedule despite the number of tax break extenders that Congress passed and President Obama signed into law prior to the Christmas break. It also noted that it is moving ahead with tax season even with various budget cuts.
Here is a statement from IRS Commissioner John Koskinen:
“We have reviewed the late tax law changes and determined there was nothing preventing us from continuing our updating and testing of our systems. Our employees will continue an aggressive schedule of testing and preparation of our systems during the next month to complete the final stages needed for the 2015 tax season.”
You have a couple of weeks until the taxman starts to steal from you and invade your privacy.
