The price of gasoline per gallon continues to inch higher, a trend that may befuddle motorists over the coming months.
According to a new Lundberg Survey released Sunday, the average price of gasoline in the United States rose 12.72 cents to $2.1963 per gallon. The survey covers the period that ended Feb. 6 and this is the first increase since June of last year.
The highest price for gas in the lower 48 states was situated in San Francisco, where gas is priced at $2.59 per gallon, while the lowest price for gas in the U.S. was found in Tuscon, where pump prices are an average $1.82 a gallon.
“Crude oil rose in price and the full weight has not yet been passed through to motorists,” said Trilby Lundberg, the president of Lundberg Survey, said in an interview with Bloomberg News. “There are a few more pennies per gallon coming to the pump.”
The Federal Reserve economic data chart below shows that retail gas prices are slowly climbing in the U.S.
