If you haven’t followed Canadian politics in quite a while, or not at least since the scandal of former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, then you’ve missed out on quite a bit, including Canada’s Senate.
The Senate, a body that is pretty much there for decoration and tradition, is engulfed in quite a scandal. According to the Auditor General, dozens of senators claimed more than $1 million in dubious expenses. One senator charged thousands of dollars to attend a curling club anniversary, while another charged taxpayers for another breakfast that didn’t contain “ice cold Camembert and broken crackers.”
Unfortunately, there was a scandal within the scandal. In order to discover the $1 million, the AG spent $24 million over two years to compile the report. Yikes!
John Oliver, host of “Last Week Tonight,” does another splendid job on making fun of those politicians who feel entitled to their entitlements.
