During the government shutdown and sequester debate, there was talk of doomsday. Public sector workers would be on the street, the country would be in chaos and non-government workers would be in deep trouble. All we have ever heard from government workers is that they need more and more…and more and more.
This chart from the Federal Reserve shows that the number of hours of U.S. government workers is on the rise again. Indeed, the hours did dip in 2012 and 2014, but in the last couple of quarters the number is nearing 2010 levels.
Of course, if you look at the number of hours of wage and salary government workers the line has been gradually ascending.
So much for the sequester, the initiative that increases the national debt (SEE: IRS workers protest over sequestration, agency claims furloughs will hurt taxpayers)!
