If you’ve ever been to a Marxist rally, a union protest or a capitalism-hating liberal demonstration lately, one of the first things you’ll notice are not the placards, the hundreds in attendance or the mainstream media but rather the many products of capitalism.
We get it. Millennials today detest capitalism. They despise the idea of private property rights. They loathe corporations and brands. They hate the concept of work and profits. However, at the same time they shout “Down With Capitalism!”, they’re drinking Starbucks coffee, taking photos of the crowd with their iPhones and sharing those images on Twitter or Facebook (two billion-dollar, private companies).
The irony is plentiful, the hypocrisy is immense.
Over the weekend, thousands, once again, took to their iPhones and the microblogging website to #ResistCapitalism. They failed to see how capitalism and free markets have allowed them to actually participate in such a digital movement.
That’s right. Rather than actually going to the streets, moving their legs with their $200 Nike shoes and flapping their gums, they decided to sit at home and vent their frustrations through a 140-character tweet. Perhaps this is their safe space, where they have an abundance of trigger warnings. Who knows?
Here just a few of the tweets:
“If you’re unaware of how shitty capitalism is look into it so you can voice your rage on January 9th #Resistcapitalism.”

Oh, and here’s an interesting one:
the bourgeois and their racist, sexist capitalism must be purged. cis white males will be the first against the wall #ResistCapitalism

“the bourgeois and their racist, sexist capitalism must be purged. cis white males will be the first against the wall #ResistCapitalism.”
How kind. How thoughtful.
Thankfully, however, common sense prevailed on Twitter and many made a mockery of this “protest,” if you can call it that.
Here are a couple of gems:
“Now, why would I want to #ResistCapitalism, a system that’s lifted untold millions from poverty and made the world a far better place?”

“Commies: If you really want to #ResistCapitalism , get the eff off of Twitter, give your phone to a bum & throw away your Starbucks latte.”

Capitalism, even if you think it has its downsides, is the only political or economic system that has lifted millions of people out of poverty. It took centuries, but finally a system made up of private property rights, a division of labor and freedom to try, succeed and fail has allowed us an unprecedented sum of wealth for everyone.
Who knows what these millennials want anymore?
There should be one question posed to any of these protesters: how much is one of those Che Guevara t-shirts?
Ah, capitalism at its finest.
Steven Rhan says
Lol! A handful of loud extremists on both sides are mindlessly overshooting and missing the main point of contention.
Capitalism only partially serves the prosperous benefits and opportunities as advertised. Not because snowflake millennials and some vague profile of their sort actually hate what capitalism is supposed to engage. Such don’t just feel as they di for no valid reason. And the come back from the opposing camp is how liberals naively expect life to be fair. Lol!
The arguments go nowhere and are a waste of time and energy.
A completely new, removed course of individualized value production will be engaged. ‘Custom-erz’ Only!
