In a response to the current push for a $15 minimum wage, McDonald’s is looking to further automate their customer service.
After reports of McDonald’s installing automated services across the United States, Canada and elsewhere around the world, a downtown Chicago location decided to test out a self-serve kiosk. With this kiosk, you can only serve yourself coffee. However, it’s likely that in the future you can do a lot more with the machine.

It should be noted that automation is a logical trend. Businesses will install it because it saves on labor and improves efficiency. Those affected by these machines will then reallocate their human capital to another industry that needs human labor. With that being said, the recent accelerated push to automation is because of the $15 minimum wage.
Once again, those without any skills or education will be the most affected groups.

Let them install all the automation that they want, I will not be using any of it. I do not use self checkout either. Now with many of the lunch specials restaurants offer, I will be giving up fast food places that add automation.
