It never ends.
Is there a more falsely touted statistic then this whole 23-cent gender pay gap figure? Probably not. Despite the various articles, blog posts, papers, studies and essays that contract this supposed statistic, everyone continues to utter it in the media, on social networks and on the campaign trail.
It’s rather embarrassing actually.
But as we celebrate Equal Pay Day, let’s take a look at a few statistics and facts that are perhaps ignored by feminists, SJWs, socialists, politicians and others:
1. The average man works two more hours per week than women. Overall, in one’s lifetime, women will work fewer hours than their male counterparts.
2. A study comprised of men and women between 27 and 33 years of age, who were never married and had no children, only had a pay gap of +/- two cents.
3. Men take on jobs that come with high danger pay, which is why men accounted for 92 percent of workplace fatalities. They often work in physically demanding fields where you have to work in extremely hot or extremely cold temperatures (think logging, mining, fishing and so on) while risking your limbs.
4. A majority of the pay gap stems from marital status.
5. Women tend to take on jobs that are in family-friendly workplace environments (elementary schools, daycare, etc.) and come with family-friendly policies.
6. Men take either less time off or no time off at all after the birth of a child, while women do (usually around nine months).
These are only just a handful of data points that dispel this gender pay fiction.
Remember, labor costs are the No. 1 cost for employers. If they wanted to save money then they’d only hire women and save 23 percent. This is why this “coupon” from the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) is pretty funny.
