Obamacare premiums are going up once again.
According to California’s health insurance exchange, Obamacare premiums are projected to rise eight percent on average in 2017. This will double the past two years’ increases of four percent.
Insurance providers in California have submitted initial rates for next year. The final figures will be officially announced in July after state bureaucrats perform private negotiations with insurers.
Nevertheless, experts note that near double-digit premium increases will exacerbate national concerns. This is also expected to draw a lot of attention during the presidential election. Democrats say these premium hikes are normal, while Republicans continue to point to rate hikes to show how disastrous the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is.
This comes as an array of health insurers are exiting nearly all state exchanges after facing exorbitant losses on individual policies. UnitedHealth Group, which is the country’s biggest health insurance provider, confirmed it’s leaving the state exchanges.
Users have been reporting a number of issues. For instance, many pregnant women in California have reported being dropped from their health plans and allocated to Medi-Cal without any agreement or notice. Others are experiencing tax-related issues and enrollment problems.
JRATT says
Just wait until healthcare is single payer and “FREE”, NOT!
This has been the plan since they could not get single payer through Congress. Make those insurance companies the bad guys and in a few years everyone will be screaming for “SINGLE PAYER.”
