It’s official. Presidential candidate Donald Trump has reached the threshold to secure the GOP nomination, according to a new report from the Associated Press.
The real estate billionaire mogul now reportedly has 1,238 delegates, which means he will officially become the nominee at the Republican National Convention in July.
Trump can still add to his delegate count with several more states scheduled to vote. Next month, California, Montana, New Mexico and South Dakota will be the last states to vote in the Republican primaries/caucuses.
When looking at the delegate count, Texas Senator Ted Cruz is in second place with 559 delegates, followed by Florida Senator Marco Rubio (165 delegates) and Ohio Governor John Kasich (161 delegates. Ben Carson as seven, Jeb Bush has four and Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee and Rand Paul each have one delegate.
On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton has 2,305 delegates and is on the cusp of securing the nomination. Socialist Bernie Sanders is close to 900 delegates short.
