If this isn’t even more evidence that it’s time to abolish the minimum wage, a new chart from the American Enterprise (AEI) shows a huge gap in employment among black teens and white teens.
The chart shows that the unemployment rate among black teens is 36.6 percent, while the jobless rate for white teens is 16.8 percent (as of 2015).
If companies are forced to pay their staff higher wages then they’re not going to hire youth. Without a minimum wage, blacks can be hired by businesses, which they can then learn new skills, gain experience and grow their human capital.
When the minimum wage is higher, they’re simply going to hire workers with more experience or education, even if it’s something like serving customers at a fast-food joint or packing boxes at a warehouse. A higher minimum wage increases the qualifications for any position.
Here is the chart:
JRATT says
Assuming that the minimum wage is the driver for high unemployment among youth is stupid. Many factors go into why someone does not have a job. If you get rid of the minimum wage, sure youth unemployment might go down. But then business would hire lower wage workers and the ones with a little more more experience requiring a higher wage might now be unemployed. More propaganda from Mr Moran. I notice everyone who is against raising or even having a minimum wage are people making more than minimum wage. DUH!
