News Story of the Day: we all know by now that former Texas Republican Congressman and three-time presidential candidate Ron Paul will not support Donald Trump. However, speaking in an interview with CNBC, he noted that he would come around to Trump if he supported a free market system. But that won’t happen.
Dr. Paul explained that Trump’s proposals are foolish, whether it’s a 45 percent tariff or border walls. He’s stumped at how people can call his ideas good ones.
“Most people have rolled over and said, ‘Yeah, we complained two months ago about tariffs, but he probably wasn’t serious about it.’ We don’t know what he’s serious about. Now, I think a tariff war would be horrible right now,” Paul said. “This idea of building the China Wall on our southern border and making Mexico pay for it, I don’t understand how people say ‘that’s a good idea,’ and that’s his rallying cry. I find that a little bit silly.”
Paul has been a strong vocal critic of Trump, but he’s also been a strong critic of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.
Chart of the Day: are bike helmets the answer to cyclist safety? Not necessarily, says new research from the Toole Design Group. Ostensibly, getting more people to ride a bike and improved street designs will enhance the safety of cyclists. This chart shows cyclists’ helmet use and the fatality rate per country:
Illustration of the Day: you’ll see below the viciousness of these anti-Trump demonstrators. The media are blaming the Republican nominee for all of the heinous acts committed, in which the anti-Trump protesters are buying into. Here is an illustration making light of it:
Quote of the Day: legendary economist Milton Friedman was a wise man with a great deal of insight into pretty much everything, except for monetary policy. With the debate of racism and religious prejudice dominating talk shows and newspapers, Friedman had this to say about the virtues of the free market:
“The great virtue of a free market system is that it does not care what color people are; it does not care what their religion is; it only cares whether they can produce something you want to buy. It is the most effective system we have discovered to enable people who hate one another to deal with one another and help one another.”
Video of the Day: the anti-Donald Trump crowd continues their campaign of violence and filth. More videos are being uploaded showcasing these vile individuals attacking those who are exercising their free speech and their support for a political candidate. They say Donald Trump is a racist, but President Obama has killed thousands of Muslims and assassinated a Muslim American without due process. Where’s their outrage? Trump is terrible on policy, but this level of violence is uncalled for.
