One day after it was reported that U.S. President Barack Obama charged taxpayers nearly $80 million for vacations, we now learn that French taxpayers are on the hook for President Francois Hollande’s haircuts. What a world we live in!
It seems Hollande’s 90 percent disapproval rating will take an even greater dive after reported that his personal hair stylist is paid $14,400 per month. This isn’t new, either. The personal hair stylist has been paid this much since 2012.
Ostensibly, this is how much a French government minister earns each month.
The government doesn’t seem to care, though. Spokesman Stephane le Foll defended the reports and attempted to straighten everything out by saying we all get haircuts:
“Everyone has their hair done, don’t they? This hairdresser had to abandon his salon and he’s on tap 24 hours a day.”
Personal appearance matters to politicians. Former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper had his own makeup lady; Hillary Clinton spends $600 on her hair at salons; Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s wife, wants her own staff so she can attend functions; and Republicans doled out money so Sarah Palin could buy new clothes.
Let the hair puns begin!
