When you would want world-renowned flip-flopper Mitt Romney in your administration then you know something is wrong. Yet, that is exactly what former New Mexico Republican Governor and Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson recently confirmed.
Speaking in an interview with Deseret News last week, Johnson said that he would certainly like to have former Massachusetts Republican Governor and two-time presidential candidate Mitt Romney in his administration.
Because of his experience in business and running the Olympics, Johnson believes he would be an excellent choice to be in a Johnson-led White House.
“If Mitt Romney wants to be a part of the administration, that would be a guarantee,” Johnson told the newspaper. “I think [the position] would be for Mitt Romney to decide … and I say that with reverence to his skills as a business person and having run the Olympics.”
William Weld, Johnson’s running mate and former Governor of Massachusetts, noted that Romney would be a good pick for Secretary of State or Secretary of Defense.
That would be terrifying. Romney’s foreign policy record is terrible. Romney supported the Iraq War and the troop surge, favored the Libyan invasion and said he wouldn’t take options off the table in regards to “the use of tactical nuclear weapons” in Iran.
How can Johnson and Weld be libertarians if they want Romney in their administration? Perhaps this is a political maneuver since Romney noted that he would consider supporting Johnson and Weld in November.
Brain says
Yes, it is a political maneuver. If Romney would endorse Johnson, the next Utah poll would Johnson have in first place. And that would guarantee an invitation to the presidenatial debates even if Johnson fails the 15% average nationally. That’s the plan.
