It isn’t very often that Gary Johnson gets angry about something. He is usually quite calm when he speaks during interviews. Not this time.
The former New Mexico Governor and Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson spoke with Town Hall recently to talk about immigration. When the interviewer mentioned the term “illegal immigrant,” Johnson became unleashed and told the reporter that it’s an “incendiary” term and “offensive” to the entire Hispanic population. He wants you to use the term “undocumented” instead.
Here is what he told the journalist:
“If you use the term ‘illegal immigrants,’ that is very incendiary to the Hispanic population here in this country. It just is. It just is. Just so you that know. Just so that you know and you don’t have to use that term. They came into this country because they couldn’t get in legally. And the jobs existed. And you or I would have done the same thing. When you go back decades ago, this was not considered illegal. When you go back decades, which involve a lot of these 11 million, it wasn’t the same issue as it is today.”
And this guy is the head of libertarianism right now in the United States? The only time Ron Paul ever became irked during an interview was when he was constantly asked about an op-ed published in his newsletter during the 1970s. And to be outraged over a term that describes an immigrant doing something illegal is absurd.
