With just days to go until the first United States presidential debate, can Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson make the stage?
Under the current rules, each candidate needs a minimum of 15 percent in the polls prior to the debate. The Commission on Presidential Debates noted this summer that there could be some wiggle room for the former New Mexico Republican Governor to stand next to Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
As of Tuesday, Johnson presently maintains an average of eight percent in the polls, according to Real Clear Politics. Of the last five polls, Johnson has garnered between five and 10 percent. If this continues then he likely won’t be able to participate in the debates.
Green Party nominee Jill Stein isn’t doing any better. She is averaging three percent and has only received between two and four percent support in the last five polls.
