There is a gender gap happening in the United States today, and the so-called victims of this gender gap are men, at least according to a new employment chart from the American Enterprise Institute.
Since the economic collapse from nearly a decade ago:
- Women have earned 133 new jobs for every 100 new jobs gained by men.
- Men have lost 5.7 million jobs over the last nine years compared to 2.6 million job losses for women.
- Male employment has gone up 3.1 percent compared to 4.8 percent for female employment.
Here is the chart:
The AEI’s Mark Perry attempts to explain what is exactly happening:
“Possible explanations for the gender differences in job gains (and losses) over the last nine years include: a) men are over-represented in jobs with greater chances of layoffs and unemployment (e.g. construction and manufacturing) while women are over-represented in occupations with more stable employment over business cycles (e.g. education and health care) and b) women have been earning an increasing (and majority) share of college degrees (including master’s and doctor’s degrees), giving them an advantage over men for jobs requiring a college education.”
Where is the outrage over this gender gap? Why aren’t there special laws, regulations, tax credits and initiatives encouraging more businesses to hire men? You certainly won’t see Hillary Clinton, MSNBC or President Obama talk about these facts.
Perhaps that’s not the political correct thing to do right now.
