As nearly all opponents of Hillary Clinton are jubilant over the fact that FBI director James Comey has reopened the investigation into the former Secretary of State’s emails, one of her political rivals for the Oval Office isn’t.
Speaking in an interview with CNN on Monday, Libertarian Party vice presidential candidate Bill Weld confirmed that he is “outraged” by the FBI announcement. Weld is terrified that the new investigation could swing the election result Donald Trump’s way, which is something the former Massachusetts Republican Governor doesn’t want happening.
“I think it’s disgraceful. Ten days to go — I think it’s disgraceful,” Weld.
“I do not have my candidate hat on here. I have on my former Justice Department hat — honest. And I’m outraged by what’s going on here, because it’s such a violation of Justice Department policies, procedures, whatever.”
Weld accused the FBI of “playing hit and run,” adding that there isn’t any way for Clinton “to know what the evidentiary basis is on” and that is what makes it “more unreasonable.”
The former governor believes Comey was worried about criticism from congress, even though, Weld says, he did the right thing in July.
“It’s a real mess, and it’s a mess of his making,” he said. “This is not a new development. This is not the sort of thing that would require an update. If you don’t know, keep your mouth shut. Don’t speculate.”
And Weld is a candidate for the Libertarian Party?
But it isn’t really surprising. He thinks there is no one more qualified to be president than Clinton.
