Politics is a tragic comedy. Remember George Orwell’s “1984”?
“Oceania was at war with Eurasia; therefore Oceania had always been at war with Eurasia.”
Up until last week, Democrats loved FBI director James Comey. The left had praised Comey by calling him courageous, non-partisan and great. They even said that no one should ever question his integrity and competence.
Well, all of that has completely changed. Those same ones who praised him as early as last week have flip-flopped and now question his integrity and competence. This comes as Comey reopened the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails.
It’s befuddling to witness the Democrats tergiversate their support of a public official in such a short period of time. Do they think everyone is stupid?
Here are five times Democrats praised the FBI director:
Here is Nevada Democratic Senator Harry Reid on Comey this past summer:
“No one can question the integrity, the competence.”
Here is California Democratic Congresswoman and former Speaker of the House in July:
“Let me just say this about Director Comey, first, this is a great man.”
Here is President Barack Obama in June:
“I think Director Comey could not have been more exhaustive,” the president said.
“To know Jim Comey is also to know his fierce independence and his deep integrity. Like Bob, he’s that rarity in Washington sometimes -– he doesn’t care about politics, he only cares about getting the job done. At key moments, when it’s mattered most, he joined Bob in standing up for what he believed was right. He was prepared to give up a job he loved rather than be part of something he felt was fundamentally wrong. As Jim has said, ‘We know that the rule of law sets this nation apart and is its foundation.'”
Here is Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Tim Kaine in October:
“The FBI, under he direction of a wonderful and tough career public servant, Jim Comey . . . somebody with the highest standards of integrity.”
Here is the Washington Post editorial board in July:
“IF REPUBLICANS believe the FBI director is corrupt and political, they should have the gumption to say so. Instead, many have insulted James B. Comey with slimy implications and underhanded threats since Tuesday, when he announced that he would not recommend charges against Hillary Clinton relating to her use of a private email server while secretary of state.
…
“In fact, Mr. Comey offered plenty of explanation, starting with the facts that investigators found no intentional wrongdoing and only a tiny number of emails on Ms. Clinton’s personal account containing information marked classified at the time. In reality, Mr. Comey pointed out, “no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case.”
