Donald Trump won’t win the United States election on Tuesday. If he does, you shouldn’t expect the cronyism to come to an end. The status quo could very well be maintained, and the latest evidence comes from the Republican nominee’s campaign.
Earlier this year, Steven Mnuchin, former Goldman Sachs partner and Soros Fund management employee, became finance chair for the Trump campaign. He was successful in raising big dough for Trump. Because of this, the real estate billionaire mogul wants Mnuchin in at the Treasury Department should he win the election next week.
According to Fox Business Network (via Reuters), unnamed sources from inside the Trump campaign claim he is advocating big time for Mnuchin to become Treasury Secretary in a Trump White House.
The Trump campaign has yet to publicly comment on the reports.
Mnuchin also founded the hedge fund company Dune Capital Management LP and resigned from CIT Group last year. He has been a large contributor to Democrats, including Barack Obama and even Hillary Clinton.
Trump has been open about his disdain for hedge fund managers. Here is what he said about them last year:
“The hedge fund guys didn’t build this country. These are guys that shift paper around and they get lucky. They are energetic. They are very smart. But a lot of them—they are paper-pushers. They make a fortune. They pay no tax. It’s ridiculous.”
He even went as far as saying in one debate that hedge fund managers have control over politicians.
“I know the guys at Goldman Sachs. They have total, total control over him [Ted Cruz]. Just like they have total control over Hillary Clinton.”
This should be a big deal for those who want Trump to supposedly “drain the swamp.” Remember, one of the big criticisms of Hillary Clinton is that she is controlled by Wall Street.
