President Obama has made many broken promises, and has failed massively in the world of foreign policy. Despite campaigning as a peace candidate, he has been anything but for the last eight years. And it seems one policy measure that was the corner stone of his presidential campaign won’t be happening.
Obama had pledged to shut down Guantanamo Bay, the detention center for terrorists and suspected terrorists, on the first day of his presidency. That didn’t happen, and it eventually flew under the radar by the press. The reason? Because of Congress, though Obama had control of the White House, House and Senate for two years to initiate his administration.
Since Obama still has a few days left of his administration, will he finally end Gitmo? Nope.
The White House confirmed this week that Obama will not use his executive authority to end the controversial detention center.
