It is great to see the left suddenly denouncing government. It will be great to see the supposed anti-war left awake from their cocoons when another war breaks out. They have been rather quiet over the last eight years about many of the harmful policies of Barack Obama.
Unfortunately, it is pure partisanship, and they fall for the idea that government works as long as you elect the right people. They believe that if you have the right people leading government then everyone can be prosperous and you can have world peace. Remember, the so-called right people metastasize into the wrong people eventually.
Here is what legendary free market economist Milton Friedman said:
“What is important is not the particular person who is elected President or the party he belongs to. I have often said we shall not correct the state of affairs by electing the right people; we’ve tried that. The right people before they’re elected become the wrong people after they’re elected. The important thing is to make it politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing. If it is not politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing, the right people will not do the right thing either.”
Here is also a short clip of Friedman making the same case:
It doesn’t matter who you elect. Whoever wins, you lose.
