For the last 18 months, you have likely been told that Donald Trump is “literally Hitler,” either by the mainstream media or people on Twitter. Or, if you’re overseas, you’ve been told that Nigel Farage and all of the Brexit supporters were “literally Hitler.” Any of the populist sentiment may have been slapped with the label of being “literally Hitler.”
Well, one prominent person is echoing the sentiments that the entire populist movement is Hitler. Who is that person? Pope Francis.
Speaking in an interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais (via CNBC), the pope warned that the growing populist movement occurring all over the world could lead to a brand new Adolf Hitler.
“In times of crisis, we lack judgment, and that is a constant reference for me. The most obvious example of European populism is Germany in 1933. After the crisis of 1930, Germany is broken, it needs to get up, to find its identity, a leader, someone capable of restoring its character, and there is a young man named Adolf Hitler,” the pope said. “Hitler didn’t steal the power, his people voted for him, and then he destroyed his people.”
When asked specifically about President Trump, he noted that he would wait to pass judgment on him.
“I don’t like to get ahead of myself nor judge people prematurely,” he explained. “We will see how he acts, what he does, and then I will have an opinion.”
So, it seems that Pope Francis is now a monetary theorist, an environmental scientist, an immigration expert and now a political commentator. He wants global government, but he’s warning about a new Hitler? Come on…The pope is ostensibly an all-knowing omnipotent being.
