If there was one thing that the 2016 election accomplished it was the showcase of the double standards and hypocrisy maintained by the left. They are upset about Donald Trump winning the presidency, but it was something that they brought upon themselves.
Former Texas Republican Congressman and three-time presidential candidate Ron Paul posted a short but insightful comment on Facebook on Sunday evening that highlighted this very point.
Here it is:
It has become very apparent that the left views Trump’s election as an absolute calamity. But it is a calamity that they brought upon themselves.
The left remained silent while the Obama administration spent two full terms at war. They excused Obama’s NSA scandals. They cheered the growth of an imperial presidency and an activist judiciary.
But worst of all, the left poisoned America with vicious identity politics and a deeply false narrative of racism, sexism, xenophobia, and privilege. How could a backlash not occur?
What matters most in the upcoming years is not what Trump can actually do in the face of this hatred. What matters is what he can undo.
Dr. Paul was quite right in his criticism of the left.
They cheered on Obama’s wars, but had condemned those same wars under George W. Bush. They cheered on the NSA under Obama’s watch, but had condemned that same agency under Bush. They cheered on the growth of the executive branch under Obama, but had condemned the expansion of the president’s powers under Bush.
This will become apparent once again when a Democrat takes over the Oval Office next time. They will oppose wars, surveillance and the imperial presidency now, but then cheer them on in the future.
