Because technology corporations in the United States are so desperate for labor, a lot of countries are suffering a so-called brain drain. This is when, for instance, a computer genius in Pakistan or India relocates to the U.S. and gets a job with Facebook, Google or Amazon. A lot of countries are frustrated by this trend and don’t know what to do.
On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order that temporary withholds visas from citizens in seven Middle Eastern countries for 120 days. The move has since established an immense amount of international outcry.
What do the two things have in common? Well, one Pakistani politician will give you an answer.
According to a report from Voice of America News, Imran Khan, the head of Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf opposition party, wants Pakistan to be placed on Trump’s list of immigration suspensions.
Speaking at a rally over the weekend, Khan urged Trump to place the nation on the list in order to combat the brain drain in the country.
“I want to tell all my fellow Pakistanis today, I pray that Donald Trump really bans visas for us,” Khan said, adding that he wants the country’s skilled and educated youth to stay in Pakistan to help improve the nation.
He also lauded Iran for banning Americans from entering the nation.
“And then if America tells us they are stopping visas for us we will also, like Iran, tell them we are going to stop visas for Americans,” said Khan.
We are in for some interesting times.
