With each passing day, it is becoming more likely that the United States will wage a trade war with Mexico. If U.S. President Donald Trump is successful in initiating this war then numerous states, even the most economically vibrant, across the union would be impacted by such a trade battle.
According to a new report from WalletHub, a personal finance website, Texas, Arizona and Michigan would be most affected by a trade war with Mexico. Meanwhile, the likes of Alaska, District of Columbia and Maine would be least affected.
Using data such as “exports to Mexico as a share of state GDP” and “share of jobs supported by trade with Mexico,” the website compiled a list of states most and least impacted by a Mexican trade war.
Here is the list:
States Most Affected by Trade War with Mexico:
1. Texas
2. Arizona
3. Michigan
4. New Mexico
5. Kentucky
6. Tennessee
7. Utah
8. Missouri
9. Alabama
10. Iowa
States Least Affected by Trade War with Mexico:
42. West Virginia
43. New York
44. Idaho
45. Oregon
46. Washington State
47. Montana
48. Wyoming
49. Maine

Today, Texas is one of the most economically vibrant states in the country. Will the Lone Star State remain that way if the president’s proposed border wall impacts trade?
