You are not an adult until you reach the age of 30, say millennials.
That’s right. No longer is 18 the age that you enter into adulthood; it is 30.
David Poltrack, chief research officer and ratings expert at CBS, and Nielsen Catalina Solutions looked at data to conclude that millennials – those typically born between 1980 and 2000 – do not think they are entirely responsible for themselves until they reach the age of 30, according to The Wrap.
Why was 30 selected? This is the age that they generally move out of their parents’ house, get a job and pay for their own bills.
Indeed, adulthood has changed over the centuries. Back in the day, 20 years old meant that you already had a job, a wife and a child on the way. Today, 20 years old means living at home, getting a degree in Women’s Studies and relying on the Bank of Mom & Dad. But what happened exactly?
The researchers blamed it on three factors: their fault (laziness), their parents’ fault (coddling) and society’s fault (economy).
“More controversial is the whole idea that their baby boomer parents have really coddled them. They’ve made it too good for them. Why would you leave?” Poltrack told the website.
“Only now are they really coming into their own in terms of being major consumers of goods and services, and therefore a major economic component as well as a population component.”
Of course, when millennials are shutting down free speech in their spare time and calling everyone they disagree with a Nazi, it can be understood that so many are delaying adulthood.

The key question now becomes: what the heck will happen with Generation Z? Will they be just as bad or worse as their generational predecessors?
