Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is going to save Canada from the robots.
Replying to a question on Quora, the head of state, who likes to travel more than work and let taxpayers foot the bill, explained that robots replacing human jobs is inevitable, but don’t you worry because Ottawa has a plan to educate and train citizens to ensure they have careers.
Trudeau was asked on Tuesday “What should governments do to prepare for the technological automation of human jobs?”
Here is how he responded:
“We know that the job market is changing, and instead of resisting in vain, we’re focused on funding research and innovation, like in AI and quantum computing, that’ll help lead the change here in Canada. And while we do that, we’re preparing Canadians to find good jobs through investments in education and training,” Trudeau responded.
The 2017 federal budget includes spending money on 13,000 “work-integrated placements” for students, proposing an “Innovation and Skills Plan” and allowing Canadians on Employment Insurance to keep receiving these funds if they are seeking out self-funded training.
“For unemployed workers receiving EI, this will mean that they can return to school to get the training they need to find a new job — without fear of losing the EI benefits they need to support themselves and their families. This will provide greater security to Canadian families at a time when they need help most,” he explained.
In other words, Trudeau will save us all.
The prime minister is pretty much echoing what former Florida Republican Governor Jeb Bush recently said (SEE: 4 reasons to not fear Jeb Bush’s ominous robotic takeover warning). He warned that robots will take jobs from humans and that the government needs to intervene with training and education.
The key question is: will this myth that robots will destroy humans be the new talking point for statists? Advancements in technology, automation and robots have been going on for hundreds of years and we have all become richer over time.
The wheel did not destroy mankind. ATMs did not destroy mankind. Desktop computers did not destroy mankind. Whatever else is invented in the future will not destroy mankind.
