So much for the left being anti-war…
One of the few sane Democrats left in Congress rightly lambasted United States President Donald Trump for his missile strike against a Syrian air base on Thursday that was reportedly responsible for the chemical gas attack last week.
As liberals and the media championed the president, Hawaiian Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard called the ordering of 59 tomahawk missiles in Syria “reckless and short-sighted.”
“Why should we just blindly follow this escalation of a counterproductive regime-change war?” Gabbard told CNN‘s Wolf Blitzer on Friday. “There’s responsibility that goes around. Standing here pointing fingers does not accomplish peace for the Syrian people. It will not bring about an end to this war.”

This did not please the likes of Neera Tanden, President of the Center for American Progress and “bigly” Hillary Clinton supporter, and former Governor and DNC Chair Howard Dean.
Here is what Tanden tweeted:
“People of Hawaii’s 2nd district – was it not enough for you that your rep met with a murderous dictator? Will this move you?”

As a veteran of the Iraq War, it is quite likely that Gabbard has a better sense of what is going on in the Middle East than some activist wearing a “resist” t-shirt.
Here is what Dean tweeted:
“This is a disgrace. Gabbard should not be in Congress.”

The former presidential candidate later added:
“Engaging in dialogue isn’t the problem. It’s claiming there is doubt Assad uses chemical warfare. She sounds like Trump making excuses.”
Gabbard quickly responded to these comments on Twitter:
“Those who’ve declared Trump a habitual liar now vilify those refusing to blindly follow him into another regime change war. Hypocrisy.”

Although Gabbard isn’t entirely anti-war, she has a much saner viewpoint on foreign policy than her Democratic colleagues and Republican opponents. Like Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul, Gabbard has questioned the administration’s dubious foreign policy.
Now we wait for the John McCains and the Nancy Pelosis of the world to utter the usual “Gabbard is working for Russia” narrative.
What is fascinating is the fact that the left and the media question every single thing Trump or his officials say – even Russian salad dressing. But when it comes to war, the media will not ask any questions or express any doubt. It’s sickening the media’s love of war.
Perhaps it’s time for Gabbard to switch to an Independent.
