In 2016, the United States government spent $3.85 trillion.
That is how a new website – beta.usaspending.gov – from the U.S. Treasury Department begins.
You may be wondering how that money was spent. Well, you can now take a look at how each tax dollar was spent by the politicians and bureaucrats in Washington.
The website breaks it down into 19 different categories (Social Security, Medicare and national defense took up the top three). When you hover over each block, you are given specific information, like the total dollar figure and where the money is spent.
It is only in beta mode, but it should be a great digital tool moving forward.
