Ontario is really transforming into a have-not province isn’t it?
In addition to experimenting with a basic income guarantee, revamping its labor code to hurt businesses, substantially raising hydro costs and increasing the provincial debt to $300 billion, the Ontario Liberals are now increasing the minimum wage to $15.
Premier Kathleen Wynne announced on Tuesday that the province’s minimum wage will increase to $15 by the year 2019.
According to the Globe and Mail:
After two years of independent review, the government unveiled proposed amendments to its Employment Standards Act and Labour Relations Act Tuesday, including a rise in minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2019. Part-time, contract and temporary workers would also make the same wage as full-time workers for equal work; vacation and personal-leave benefits would be increased across the board; and scheduling rules would become more rigid, ensuring workers get paid for at least three hours if a shift is cancelled.
It will first reach $14 in January 2018.
But why stop at $15? If there aren’t any adverse consequences to raising the minimum wage, as the premier suggests, then why not raise it to $50? $100? Also, why does Wynne hate the poor, the unskilled, the uneducated and youth? They are the ones who will be seriously impacted by this arbitrary figure.
It’s terrifying to think that the Liberals think it’s better to be unemployed at $15 than to be employed at $11!
What the heck is wrong with the Ontario grits? The Liberals were elected in 2003, and their reign of terror will continue next year when they are elected to another four-year mandate. That means 20 years of failed Liberal policies. Scary.

That is not logical and it is always the argument against raising the minimum wage. I graduated high school in 1974, no skills, just a strong back. I loaded trucks for Gallo Wine in Commerce, CA for $9.10 per hour. It was a union shop, but as far as I know the company did not go bankrupt paying those high wages.
The rich in this country has convinced everyone that $10 per hour is a good wage, but they would never have any of their family work for such a low wage.
I agree a minimum wage of $15 per hour may not be right for Great Fall, MT, but in larger cities with a high cost of living it is needed. Not raising the U. S. minimum wage since 2009 is a slap in the face to anyone looking for work, it sets the floor for labor rates and forces people to seek government assistance.
