Imagine if the free market system produced such a horrific result…
According to a “stunning” report by USA Today, more seniors are graduating with “A” averages, but the average SAT score is tumbling. This is the direct result of the “Easy A” and “Everyone Gets a Trophy” generation that we have embraced.
The report found that 47 percent of seniors’ grade averages were A, A-minus, or A-plus in the nation’s Class of 2016. This is an increase of 10 percent from 1998, when 39 percent of graduating seniors posted A averages.
Moreover, the analysis also discovered that 43.7 percent graduates with a “B” average, down from 47.9 percent nearly 20 years ago. Just 8.9 percent of seniors finished school with a “C” average, down from 12.7 percent in ’98.
It also uses a chart:
Congratulations! Wait. As Charles Bronson would say, “This ain’t over.”
The newspaper highlights that the average SAT score has tumbled from 1,026 to 1,002 on the 1,600-point scale.
Simply put: students are receiving grade inflation.
Teachers can use this as evidence that they are doing a wonderful job and that they “deserve” salary increases, additional funding and more of everything.
Unfortunately, this concept is seeping into the university level as well, says Stuart Rojstaczer, a former Duke University scholar and founder of the website GradeInflation.com.
The newspaper reports:
Recent research suggests that the problem isn’t just showing up in high school. In colleges nationwide, the most popular grade is now an A, according to Stuart Rojstaczer, a former Duke University scholar and founder of the website GradeInflation.com.
According to Rojstaczer, close to 50% of all college grades given are A’s, a far cry from even two decades ago, when the average GPA at a four-year college was 3.11.
He recently told USA TODAY that A’s are now three times more common than they were in 1960.
Rojstaczer has said grade inflation became more prevalent during the Vietnam War era, when professors began awarding higher grades to prevent students from being deployed, since students who dropped out of college were drafted into the military.
Government education is hurting everyone and everything. Soon every kid will get an A grade for just bringing a pencil – if little Johnny doesn’t bring a pencil then it’s because of the racist patriarchy.
