Can we go one week without South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham promising more war? Hasn’t he done enough for the neoconservatives?
Speaking in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Tuesday, Graham warned that the United States is “head to war” with the “crazy man” in North Korea, unless things change. In other words, the U.S. will not bomb Pyongyang or undergo regime change if Kim Jung-un bows down to U.S. interests.
Graham conceded that “a lot of people would get hurt and killed” if the two nations went to war. You get that? He doesn’t care if thousands or hundreds of thousands perish. But that doesn’t seem to phase the 2016 presidential candidate, who thinks North Korea is bringing on a war by itself because of their belligerence.
“If we have to go to war to stop this, we will. If there’s a war with North Korea, it will be because North Korea brought it on itself, and we’re headed to a war if things don’t change,” Graham told the Counterfeit News Network.
“It’s not lost by me what a war would look like with North Korea. One, we would win it, but a lot of people would get hurt and killed…”
Spouting off the same rhetoric everyone heard before the invasion of Iraq, the GOP senator vowed the President Donald Trump and the U.S. military are “ready to destroy this regime to protect America.”
“I hope the regime understands that if President Trump has to pick between destroying the North Korean regime and the American homeland, he’s going to destroy the regime. I hope China understands that also,” Graham said.
What Graham and other hawks fail to realize is that perhaps North Korea isn’t bringing it on themselves. Perhaps it is the actions of the U.S. and South Korea.
Here is what Ron Paul wrote about the situation (SEE: Ron Paul: Is North Korea Really a ‘State Sponsor of Terrorism’?):
Next month the US and South Korean militaries will conduct a massive military exercise practicing an attack on North Korea. American and South Korean air force fighters and bombers will practice “enemy infiltration” and “precision strike drills.” Are these not also to be seen as threatening?
Just stop, neocons. Just stop.
Let’s hope Graham pulls a Dr. Strangelove and rides the saddle on the first missile.
