President Donald Trump and the Republicans are adamant to cut taxes (somewhat), but they aren’t as aggressive in cutting spending. In fact, under the GOP, the budget deficit is projected to spike, the national debt will edge upwards, and spending will increase.
This was evident on Wednesday after Democrats and Republicans announced a new budget deal that will raise spending levels.
Capitol Hill leaders agreed to a two-year budget deal that boosts federal spending by $300 billion. Under the terms, military spending will go up $80 billion this year and $85 billion next year, while non-defense spending will jump by $63 billion this year and $68 billion next year.
Ostensibly, according to the esteemed leaders in Washington, the government doesn’t spend enough on military or entitlements.
One side wants more defense spending, one side wants more welfare spending. What do you get? A bloated welfare-warfare state.

Had this discussion on the radio last Tuesday. We spend a lot of our budget on what amounts to military welfare enabling other nations to not provide for their own defense. They know we will be right there so nations like Kuwait, Germany, Japan and others depend on our global presents. We need to be smart with every dime, concentrate on true defense, stop foreign welfare that only serves to oppress the citizens of who we say we help. Propping up dictators and tyrants in the name of our mutual interest. As the only veteran in my congressional race and the only one who actually served in N. Africa and the Mideast…..well we get what we deserve when we vote color of party over content of character. Before you judge/ serve walk the walk in my boots.

I feel your pain, I served 20 years in the USAF 1975 to 1995.
I have voted for Dummycrats and Ripoffagains for the last 44 years and have seen very little change, no matter who you vote for.
Promises never kept, you can tell when a politician is lying, anytime his lips are moving.
President Trump, when he was running for office said he was going to raise the standard deduction for single filers to $25,000 and for married couples to $50,000. Of course they would never do it, to help the middle class, because then someone making making $250,000 or more would have to pay an additional $36,000.
Protect the political class and their rich friends is how this Congress and President operate.
Nothing has changed with the election of President Trump.
They just doubled the standard deduction and then took away the personal exemption of $4,050 for each family member.
They got rid of the AMT so if everything in Trump’s taxes were the same as 2006, he will save 32 million. What a bunch of crap.
I will no longer vote and support this corrupt government both state and federal.
Just remember what Mark Twain said – “If voting made any real difference they would not let us do it.”

I will most likely serve one term if elected because I refuse to compromise our freedoms for security or sell my soul for a bowl of soup. You are spot on and daily the affirmations keep coming. I pray I am used as a wake up call or the catalyst for real reform but I’m not sure where this is going. All I know is I feel compelled to follow it out. I have 3 more years before I can retire as a teacher and live a peaceful quiet life but I look at my kids and grand kids and remember the oath we swore. Brother stay at your post!
