News Story of the Day: akin to the Las Vegas shooting last year, the public wants to assign blame to a particular group or cause. Immediately after the Florida high school shooting, Twitter, newspapers, and broadcast media shouted for gun control and accused President Donald Trump and the Republicans for having blood on their hands. What’s more, the left is trying to tie the suspect, Nikolas Cruz, to white nationalism/supremacy.
On Thursday, the Associated Press, and subsequently the rest of the media, reported that Cruz was a member of the Republic of Florida Militia: “BREAKING: Leader of white nationalist group has confirmed suspect in Florida school shooting was member of his organization.”
It turned out to be fake news.
Law enforcement confirmed hours later that there was no connection between Cruz and white supremacy. The Tallahassee Democrat reported:
Leon County law enforcement sources told the Tallahassee Democrat that they could not find information linking Cruz, 19, to the Republic of Florida Militia, as claimed by the group’s self-proclaimed leader Jordan Jereb.
Hours after news outlets around the nation reported Cruz’s alleged ties, Leon County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Grady Jordan told the Tallahassee Democrat investigative work did not yield any connections.
But then the right is falling for some fake news as well. They are circulating fake photos of the shooter wearing an ANTIFA shirt and was anti-Trump.
Evil is evil.
Chart of the Day: throughout the 20th century, Americans have been quick to adopt the newest technology, whether it was a vacuum or a microwave. To this day, we still get our hands on the latest gadgets. Just how quick have we been to adopt tech? Here is a fascinating chart:
Illustration of the Day: whenever you point to a specific country as an example of socialism, the dedicated socialists will say, “Well, that’s not real socialism!” Then they will expatiate now what real socialism looks like, and tell you that it would be a utopia. This meme sums it up:
Quote of the Day: right now, the solution being proposed by the left is to ban all guns, while the right’s answer is to increase security or treat mental health. What’s the libertarian solution? Robert Wenzel of Economic Policy Journal and Target Liberty explains:
Get government out of the education business so that those of us who don’t want out kids treated like sheep have many more options.
The shooting took place at a high school. It is not unreasonable to think that high school kids would be capable of knowing how to handle guns and take out nut jobs if they threaten. Maybe you let the kids carry guns. They did in the old days. Maybe you train the kids and keep the guns behind glass to be broken in the case of emergency. Maybe you train the teachers to shoot and have them carry.
Or maybe you do the opposite and secure all entrances so that it is near impossible for anyone with a gun to get inside.
Or maybe you do nothing if you think the shootings are a far-off outlier (There are over 35,000 high schools in the United States). Maybe you homeschool your kids. Or you send them to prep schools where the student body is under 300, making the odds of a shooter amongst them very low.
There are certainly other solutions that I haven’t even thought of but the macro solution is to get government out of the education business. The government is terrible at education, just look at the urban primitives coming out of public schools, and they obviously have no idea of how to protect our kids.
We need to turn to free market creativity on full blast in the education sector and in the student protection sector.
In the days ahead we will no doubt hear from President Trump and other politicians as to what should be done to protect our students. Just remember it was the government program that set these kids up to be in a kill zone.
The answer is not a new government plan. The answer is competition should be allowed to develop so that all types of programs are developed and then we get to choose how we want to protect our kids.
Tweet of the Day: George Soros is everything the left hates: white, male, banker, billionaire. Yet, now that Soros has come to the rescue to their globalist causes, he is suddenly a hero. It was revealed earlier this month that Soros contributed $500,000 to Bremain campaigns, arguing that Brexit was a “tragic mistake.” He is also proof that ghouls really exist.
Yes, because nothing says “admirable” like interfering in sovereign states’ business and destabilizing one country after another under the guise of promoting “human rights”. 🙄 pic.twitter.com/yDeey22QSN

Video of the Day: is it wrong for companies to pay CEOs billions? Simple answer: if it is earned through the market, then no. If it is earned through cronyism and government, then yes! LearnLiberty elaborates:
