What is the difference between a Republican and a Democrat? One is power and the other one isn’t.
Aside from that, when it comes to basic principles and the meat and potatoes, the two parties are a lot alike. This is why many say there is just a one-party system: the welfare-warfare party.
Case in point, Ben Carson and his Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) wasting taxpayer dollars on an opulent dining room set.
HUD spent $31,000 on a new dining room set for Secretary Ben Carson’s office, according to The New York Times. The acquisition, citing government records, included a custom mahogany hardwood table, 10 chairs with a blue velvet finish, and a hutch.
This occurred shortly after a HUD staff member, Helen Foster, submitted a grievance that Candy, Carson’s wife, was adamant in redecorating the department’s offices. Foster alleges that she was replaced because she did not locate funding for Candy’s extravagant redecoration of Carson’s office.
In a statement to CNN, Carson was unaware of the transaction.
“I was as surprised as anyone to find out that a $31,000 dining set had been ordered. I have requested that the order be canceled. We will find another solution for the furniture replacement,” he said.
“My wife also looked at catalogs and wanted to be sure that the color of the chair fabric of any set that was chosen matched the rest of the decor. I made it known that I was not happy about the prices being charged and that my preference would be to find something more reasonable.”
Well, at least he is canceling it. Kudos to him, but the damage has been done.
No matter who is in charge, taxpayers are constantly disrespected.

Wow! I don’t even spend my budget for school supplies. Mostly it comes from my pocket and any money left I give to others or just let it go back. I dumpster dive for some stuff but I teach engineering classes and I want to teach them to see what can be and not what is. Using things in a whole new way. I’m big on recycling, reusing and re purposing too. After growing up on the streets and being homeless as a young adult my mind doesn’t go to buying something I need 1st off. If I can see it in my mind I own it. I make props and sets for plays including a giant Ursula for Little Mermaid and a 24′ long fully functional smoke breathing dragon for Shrek. I worked for TXDOT designing, estimating and building bridges, roads and much else. Real life experience and a cheap skate. Perfect for Congress!

Remember the Congressman who reported wasteful spending and earmarks? I may do that. I’m not against all earmarks but it has to be in the context of a balanced budget.

This would not happen if they were spending real “money” instead of fiat money.
I applaud Mr. Carson for canceling the order, but, he knows the people want less spending by anyone in the government.
