Many of President Donald Trump’s supporters always think that he is playing a game of 4D chess underwater wearing a blindfold and handcuffed. Even if he takes your guns, it’s part of a grander scheme!
Is this an example of it?
Last week, the president rocked headlines by proposing a 25 percent tariff on steel and 10 percent on aluminum. There has been a tsunami of warnings about how import levies hurt economies and what they would do to the U.S.
But perhaps Trump is merely using the threat as a bargaining chip during his North American Free Trade (NAFTA) negotiations.
He hinted as such in a recent tweet on Monday:
We have large trade deficits with Mexico and Canada. NAFTA, which is under renegotiation right now, has been a bad deal for U.S.A. Massive relocation of companies & jobs. Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum will only come off if new & fair NAFTA agreement is signed. Also, Canada must..

The U.S. can only hope that Trump doesn’t really want to introduce a massive tariff and is only threatening the measure to gain the upperhand in NAFTA talks.
Here is the best solution all around: abandon the tariffs, scrap NAFTA, and just have free trade all around without any governments!
