Inflation picked up in February, but it was not as fierce as it was in January.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the consumer-price index (CPI) rose 0.2 percent last month, down from 0.5 percent in January. The 12-month reading through February shows that the CPI climbed 2.2 percent, up from 2.1 percent from the previous month.
Here were the highlights of the U.S. government report:
– Auto insurance rose 1.7 percent, up from 1.3 percent.
– Clothing costs increased 1.5 percent.
– Housing rose 0.2 percent, the same from January.
– The food index advanced 1.4 percent.
– Automobiles declined between 0.3 percent and 0.5 percent.
– Education prices rose 0.2 percent.
– Furniture jumped 0.3 percent.
The U.S. Dollar Index slipped 0.04 percent to 89.89.
