Amazon is a multi-billion-dollar corporation because it is satisfying consumers with competitive pricing, quick delivery, and innovative services. It is truly a remarkable company that grew out of a garage. Jeff Bezos has gone crony, but Amazon is still an amazing business.
But President Donald Trump isn’t happy with the corporation.
He went on a Twitter tirade yet again on Thursday:
I have stated my concerns with Amazon long before the Election. Unlike others, they pay little or no taxes to state & local governments, use our Postal System as their Delivery Boy (causing tremendous loss to the U.S.), and are putting many thousands of retailers out of business!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 29, 2018
When Trump sent the tweet, Amazon shares fell by about five percent. Since then, however, the company has pared its losses and now it is up more than one percent (at the time of this writing).
First, Amazon does pay taxes. Second, the USPS is only surviving because of Amazon. Third, retailers may have been put out of business by Amazon, but it is their fault for not adapting to the changes in the marketplace. Fourth, if the public isn’t happy with Amazon, then they wouldn’t shop there anymore.
If Trump wants to attack Amazon for its crony relationships with the government that’s one thing. But to shriek about taxes or using the Post Office is just asinine.
