Tax Day 2018 is finally here. It’s a day to realize that you’re spending a great portion of your life giving money to the government, though as Chris Rock once joked, you don’t pay because the state takes.
To commemorate Tax Day, let’s look at some of the greatest quotes about taxation:
“One thing is clear: The Founding Fathers never intended a nation where citizens would pay nearly half of everything they earn to the government.” – Ron Paul
“When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men in a society, over the course of time they create for themselves a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it.” – Fredric Bastiat
“There can be no such thing as ‘fairiness in taxation.’ Taxation is nothing but organized theft, and the concept of a ‘fair tax’ is there every bit as absurd as that of ‘fair theft.'” – Murray Rothbard
“What is the difference between a taxidermist and a tax collector? The taxidermist takes only your skin.” – Mark Twain
“The collection of taxes which are not absolutely required, which do not beyond reasonable doubt contribute to the public welfare, is only a species of legalized larceny.” – Calvin Coolidge
“The taxpayer: that’s someone who works for the federal government, but doesn’t have to take a civil service examination.” – Ronald Reagan
“The American people are not undetaxed. The government in Washington is overfed.” – Ronald Reagan
“Why do we call the IRS a “service?” Couldn’t it have been named a department like Labor, a bureau like the BLS or the FBI, a commission like the FTC, an administration like FDA, an agency like EPA, etc.? And have you ever noticed that “The IRS” spells “Theirs”? Hmmmmmmm…” – Mark Perry
“I am in favor of cutting taxes under any circumstances and for any excuse, for any reason, whenever it’s possible.” – Milton Friedman
“Don’t steal! The government hates competition.” – Ron Paul
