News Story of the Day: can Tom Woods inject some libertarianism into the Libertarian Party?
After a great report by Reason over last weekend’s Libertarian Party conference, there was a lot of complaints that it was becoming GOP-lite because of Bill Weld’s heavy involvement. Essentially, the LP has been fractured between libertarian-lites and Misesians. That may change with Woods.
Here is a tweet from the best libertarian commentator today, next to Robert Wenzel:
Thank you for the invitation. I’ve just taken you up on it. https://t.co/5Uweb60bOv

It’s unclear as to what his involvement will be, but any involvement is better than none, especially with the party losing its way.
Chart of the Day: it’s no secret that the labor market is booming thanks to the Federal Reserve money printing. The U.S. economy added 213,000 jobs in June, and there are zero signs that this boom is slowing down. But just where are the jobs being found?
Illustration of the Day: unfortunately, there is a growing desire in this country for more centralized power. The right wants to give President Donald Trump more power just to spite the left, while the left hands even more power to the executive branch because they realize they’ll be in power soon. It’s a scary situation.
Quote of the Day: good job to American Enterprise Institute (AEI)‘s Mark Perry for finding this goodie at The Wall Street Journal:
One reason the economy struggled under Barack Obama is because he stretched the law to serve his ideology. Businesses never knew when a new regulation might hit next, and on what legal basis. Mr. Trump is making the same mistake on trade, substituting presidential whim for clear and fixed rules.
If Mr. Trump invents a national-security threat to justify car tariffs, business should fight back in court and Congress should strip his Section 232 power.
Tweet of the Day: he may not be great on economics and other domestic issues, but Glenn Greenwald is superb on foreign policy and national security. He will be reuniting with Edward Snowden, a man who should be celebrated, not imprisoned.
So excited to reunite today with one of this generation’s greatest whistleblowers and my colleague in defense of press freedoms on @FreedomofPress, Edward @Snowden https://t.co/5cR3DXleFo pic.twitter.com/Bch1YubeSG

Video of the Day: if there were a law that banned lying, there would be silence across Washington. Thomas Sowell had such great witticisms.
There is one entertaining thing about politicians: the hypocrisy on both sides. With the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy, President Trump is expected to nominate to fill the vacancy. The Democrats are upset because he won’t wait until after the election, despite urging President Barack Obama to fill the vacancy months before the election. The Republicans slammed Obama for nominating someone in an election year, despite likely picking a Justice ahead of the mid-term elections in November.
Here is a clip of the Democrats “doing the twist”:
