Years ago, when you were 30, you had a career, a home, a family, and a great time listening to “The Jack Benny Show” in the comfort of your humble abode.
Today, when you are 30, you are playing video games, doing weed, living in your parents’ basement, and struggling to pay off your student loans. Of course, this does not apply to every 30-year-old, but it’s typical these days.
Axios published an incredible report titled “Being 30 then and now.” It examines the lives of 30-year-olds in 1977 and today.
Ultimately, it concludes that more 30-year-olds are still living with their parents, a sign of the times.
From the website:
“Today, 30-year-old millennials are more likely to be still living with their parents and, while earning about the same or less than boomers, are typically saddled with college debt.
…
“In 1975, when the oldest Boomers were 29, 57% of 18 to 34- year-olds lived with a spouse in their own household. Even as late as 1990, almost half lived with a partner. But in 2016, 31% were living in their parents’ home, making it the new, most common living arrangement for young adults, according to Census data.”
It also put together these incredible charts:
As ECN has reported over the years, the average millennial is unable to advance in life. Whether it is a feeling of entitlement or the belief that they should be given something for nothing, a large number of those born between 1980 and 2000 can’t seem to get ahead.
Yes, there are many millennials who are thriving, but it is not the same for most of their peers.
In the end, it is rather embarrassing to be still living at home at 30.
Is this boy representative of millennials today?
