Since Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s upset victory, we have learned a lot about the democratic socialist.
We have learned that she doesn’t understand international politics, despite studying it in university.
We have learned that she can’t find a revenue her stream for her $42 trillion plan.
We have learned that she didn’t want to share the wealth when she was a waitress.
We have learned she does not understand satire.
What’s the latest thing we’ve learned? Apparently she wants the government to cover funerals. Maybe?
Speaking in an interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo, AOC suggested that the cost of current system is being undercalculated because the country is not factoring the cost of funerals.
Here is what Cuomo said to AOC:
“Medicare for all, college tuition, maybe even housing, that the green new deal that you have, it is all very expensive. Even in Bernie’s home state they got sticker shock. They couldn’t get it done in his state because of how expensive it is … that was too much for people. How do you pay? How do you sell it?”
This is AOC’s response:
“Well, first of all, the thing that we need to realize is people talk about the sticker shock of Medicare for All.
They do not talk about the sticker shock of the cost of our existing system. You know, in a Koch brothers-funded study, if any study is going to try to be a little bit slanted it would be one funded by the Koch Brothers. It shows that Medicare for All is actually much more— is actually much cheaper than the current system that we pay right now.
And we’re also not talking about why aren’t we incorporating the cost of all the funeral expenses of those who die because they can’t afford access to health care. That is part of the cost of our system.”
Uh huh.
So, her contention is that her socialized medicine ambitions are cheap because Americans will no longer need to pay for funerals. Interesting.
JRATT says
At its start, in 1966, Medicare cost $3 billion. The House Ways and Means Committee estimated that Medicare would cost only about $12 billion by 1990 (a figure that included an allowance for inflation). This was a supposedly “conservative” estimate. But in 1990 Medicare actually cost $107 billion.Jan 1, 1993
