United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley is already blaming Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for a crime he hasn’t even committed yet.
Ostensibly, Haley is itching for another war.
Haley told reporters at a UN press conference on Thursday:
“If they want to continue to go the route of taking over Syria, they can do that. But they cannot do it with chemical weapons. They can’t do it assaulting their people. And we’re not gonna fall for it. If there are chemical weapons that are used, we know exactly who’s gonna use them.”
This is straight ouf the neoconservative playbook: blame an enemy for something that hasn’t even happened yet.
It isn’t just administration neocons who are clamoring for another war and hinting of an invasion in Syria.
President Trump tweeted over the weekend:
“President Bashar al-Assad of Syria must not recklessly attack Idlib Province. The Russians and Iranians would be making a grave humanitarian mistake to take part in this potential human tragedy. Hundreds of thousands of people could be killed. Don’t let that happen!”
So much for a change in foreign policy.
